The White House solar panels

You might have heard that President Obama is planning to install solar panels in the White House. What you might not know is that the Carter administration had actually installed solar panels for hot water in 1979, which were later removed by the Reagan administration in 1986 (it is not clear to me why President Reagan decided to remove the panels, but one thing is for sure, the panels are still in working condition in the cafeteria of Unity College in Maine) . It is intriguing that stubbornness among some conservatives regarding certain innocuous issues (what could have been wrong with the solar panels, except potentially being ugly?) goes back all the way to the 80s. There is a documentary in the making about the subject.
